(don't) feel good INC. / ephemeral style

gorillaz - feel good inc.

the video just perfectly fits the song. and...as only a while ago i hadn't remeber the video quite well, the feeling of the song has been present all those years. and now seeing this video again and actually watching it and finally reading the lyrics i found out that it perfectly makes sense and that it actually absolutely fits my feeling and thoughts of the song.

the chorus 'windmill windmill for the land...' - creates this fantasy world - ideal world image - or just that 'feel good' for a person. the place i've been looking for and still am. the place i had somewhere in my head from the childhood. some land where i could escape.

and now as i look back on it and thinking back on the time when i first heard this song, the memories are slightly flashing back.....like how i'd dream of this place.. on an island in the air...alone...in the sun... out of the real world.

and thinking about the lyrics, sounds, music and the whole composition of the song, it just completely makes sense. the music perfectly reflects all the feelings, the messages and thoughts of the author. the cranky and deformed out-of-tune guitar echoeing after the main riff that is heard just when you listen carefully symbolise the deformed values, wishes and needs, then the beat in the verses with the bass perfectly correspondends with the every day routine, that always continues after every other little moment of dreaming, sleeping or any other form of escaping from the reality and takes you right back into the 'cruel' and gloomy life. the style of the singing, the whispering in the back and the rapping pushes the whole idea of the song even further. and then there's of course the already mentioned dreamy atmosphere of the chorus. last but not least....just listen to the lyrics...even when you don't understand, the 'ha ha ha haa' at the very beginning of the song and also at the very end of the song says it all. and sums it up. quite a sad song it is...

so let's search for our own personal 'feel good inc.' search & destroy. false ideals.

Hahahahahahahahaha,
feel good

city's breaking down on a camel's back.
they just have to go 'cause they don't know wack
so all you fill the streets it's appealing to see
you wont get out the county, 'cos you're bad and free
you've got a new horizon, it's ephemeral style.
a melancholy town where we never smile.
and all I wanna hear is the message beep.
my dreams, they've got to kiss, because i don't get sleep, no..

windmill, Windmill for the land.
turn forever hand in hand
take it all there on your stride
it is tinking, falling down
love forever love is free
let's turn forever you and me
windmill, windmill for the land
is everybody in?

laughing gas these hazmats, fast cats,
lining them up-a like ass cracks,
lay these ponies at the track
it's my chocolate attack.
shit, i'm stepping in the heart of this here
care bear bumping in the heart of this here
watch me as i gravitate
Hahahahahahaa.
yo, we gonna go ghost town,
this motown,
with yo sound
you're in the place
you gonna bite the dust
can't fight with us
with yo sound
you kill the INC.
so don't stop, get it, get it
until you're Jet Ahead.
yo, watch the way i navigate
Hahahahahhaa

feel good, AHHHHahahahah

don't stop, get it, get it
we are your captains in it
steady,
watch me navigate,
Ahahahahahhaa.
don't stop, get it, get it
we are your captains in it
steady, watch me navigate
Ahahahahahhaa.

feel good, AHHHHahahahaha
feel good

GORILLAZ SPEAK OUT ABOUT NEW VIDEO

The brand new video for 'Feel Good Inc' is here now for you to see. The band have been very busy making it - 2D and Murdoc speak out for the first time about excess and hedonism, exactly what the video's about and what really happened on the shoot...

2D: I think Gorillaz built a tower around themselves that they couldn't get out of. Of excess and hedonism. The video is based on this feeling. For a while it was great to be on the inside, but the party's got out of hand. It' s become like the Last days of Pompeii….a…er…Sodding Gommorah. The Feelgood Inc Tower represents this. The palace we built has become a prison. In the video I'm just waking up from this year-long hedonists dream, and I realise that maybe… the fruits of success have turned sour.

Noodle is outside of the Tower, in the pale morning-after light, sitting on the edge of this floating island. And you can see she knows what's happening. But people have to wake up to it themselves. So that's what the video is about; being trapped by the things you make, and realising everyone else is caught up in it. Using it. Just…they need their party to continue, to keep this thing afloat. The Tower of Babel.

Murdoc: Apart from the obvious thing, which is my gyrating hips, the coolest thing about the video would be the the hydraulics on this gig. Just for the windmill section alone cost about 3.5 million pounds. That's sterling. We had to buy a small island, make a mold of it and then scrape out all the insides. When that was done we filled the whole thing full of helium. Using the motor from the windmill we managed to get the thing to float, but it was an absolute bugger.
